Why advertising?

With all of the fragmentation in today's media, I'm fascinated to discover how a brand can cut through the clutter and connect with an audience.  I feel that brands need to stand for more, empower their users, and give them the tools to take action and spread your message.

Working at an agency appeals to me because I thrive in a collaborative, laid-back environment that fosters creativity and new ideas. Working at Team Detroit this summer definitely spoiled me because they have an awesome workplace culture and were recently voted by the Detroit Free Press as one of the top places to work in 2009. I also am an avid fan of the AMC show, "Mad Men," which portrays the nostalgia of the golden age of advertising. I love seeing the way they thought back then, and how this industry began. In the scene below, Don Draper explains what advertising is all about:
